Tiaan previously served as Chairperson of the Pretoria Attorneys Association and Gauteng Attorneys Association. He was co-opted onto the Gauteng Legal Practice Council in 2021 and appointed onto the exco in 2021. He represents the Gauteng Independent Constituents on the Law Society of South Africa. He also sits on the Legal Sector Code Steering Committee as well as the Human Resources Committee. He was admitted as an attorney in 2000. He received his B.Proc and LLB degrees from the University of Pretoria, and has been based in Pretoria since then. He opened his own firm in 2002 and has since then practised for his own account. In 2021, Tiaan qualified as civil mediator.
