Azhar is an attorney qualified to practice in South Africa and a seasoned Knowledge Manager with experience working across Africa. He has experience in dispute resolution, risk management, privacy & data protection, knowledge management, legal technology, legal delivery, professional services strategy, digital transformation and innovation. Azhar serves as Knowledge Manager at Baker McKenzie.

Azhar is an executive member of the Gauteng Attorneys Association (GAA) and Johannesburg Attorneys Association (JAA), heading the Knowledge, Legal Technology & Innovation portfolios of the JAA and GAA. Azhar is also Chairperson of the JAA. He is an alumni and now a faculty member of the Legal Technology & Innovation Institute (LT&I), which delivers the global Legal Technology & Innovation Certificate (LTIC) and he was instrumental in launching the inaugural LawTech Live Conference in South Africa. Azhar has also earned the Certified Generative AI Expert™ certification from Blockchain Council. Azhar is working closely with the Law Society of South Africa in relation to the intersection of AI and the legal fraternity.

Azhar is also a member of  the Blockchain Council, International Legal Technology Association, American Bar Association (ABA), Compliance Institute Southern Africa and Organisation of South African Law Libraries (OSALL).

Azhar is an alumni of the University of Johannesburg (LLB, 2018; Certificate in Compliance Management, 2020), Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (Oxford Leading Professional Service Firms Programme, 2023), Legal Technology & Innovation Institute (Legal Technology & Innovation Certificate, 2022) and the Regent Business School (Higher Certificate in Islamic Finance, Banking & Law, 2016)

Azhar has delivered seminars around Legal Technology, AI in Law and the Responsible, Appropriate & Ethical use of AI in Law across Southern Africa over the last few years. Azhar is also an Ambassador of the South African Artificial Intelligence Association (SAAIA).
