Marianne Pretorius (Co-Vice Chairperson)

Marianne is a senior practicing attorney with prodigious knowledge and experience. She started her legal career in 1991 as a prosecutor. After completing her articles, she began her own firm and is the founder and Sole Proprietor of a specialised boutique law firm, Marianne Pretorius Attorneys based in the West of Johannesburg. 

Marianne is the Chairperson of the West Rand Legal Practitioners’ Association which serves as voice for legal practitioners in the West Rand. She also serves on the executive committee of the Gauteng Attorneys Association, is the secretary of both the Gauteng and Gauteng Local Division Efficiency Enhancement Committees and is a member of the High Court liaison committee. Marianne is part of the Master of the High Court Committee as well as the Johannesburg High Precinct committee. Marianne is the secretary of the Road Accident Fund Collaboration Committee and assists with facilitation of meetings where the state of both Johannesburg and Pretoria High Court Rolls and the capacity of the Courts is discussed at length. Marianne is responsible and takes the lead to facilitate meetings in all the Lower Courts situated within the West Rand District, and have been liaising with Randburg, Randfontein, Krugersdorp, Kagiso, and Westonaria Magistrates’ Courts to name only a few.

Marianne Pretorius Attorney was part of the Court-Online Pilot Project and is actively involved in the Pilot Project which will be launched in the Lower Courts. Marianne is part of the South African Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges (SAC-IAWJ), where she is a mentor and had the honour of addressing the mentors and mentees at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of South Africa, on ethics within the legal fraternity.  Marianne serves on the Sheriff Liaison Committee where she engages and partakes in constructive meetings with the various sheriff associations.

Marianne is a Small Claims Court Commissioner and an activist and promoter of access to justice for all those who require it. She is passionate about the law and is committed to the promotion of the legal profession. She is vehement about the training of candidate legal practitioners, professionalism, ethical conduct within the fraternity and strives to make a difference within the legal profession.
